This policy explains what happens to information when you use Rondo. It is written to be read, not to be survived, so the short version comes first.
THE SHORT VERSION
Rondo has no account, no login and no server of ours. We do not know who you are, we do not know that you installed the app, and we cannot see anything you do in it. Your settings and your place in each deck sit in the app's own storage on your phone. The one exception is advertising: unless you have bought the ad-free upgrade, Google's ad network runs inside the app and collects the kind of device information ad networks collect. Everything below is the long version of those five sentences.
WHO IS RESPONSIBLE
Tapademy AB, Swedish company registration number 559541-3971, is the controller of any personal data described in this policy. You can reach us at support@tapademy.com.
WHAT WE COLLECT ABOUT YOU
Nothing. There is no sign-up, no account and no login. We do not ask for your name, your email address, your phone number, your date of birth or your location. We do not run analytics of any kind. There is no crash reporting service of ours in the app. No screen you see is loaded from a server we operate, because there is no such server.
WHAT IS STORED ON YOUR DEVICE
The app keeps its settings and its progress in the private storage the operating system gives it. That storage is on your phone, is not readable by other apps, and is not sent anywhere. It holds:
- the language you chose
- whether the app follows the system theme or is fixed to light or dark
- whether sound is on
- how explicit the cards are allowed to be
- whether losing costs points, sips or dares
- whether you have confirmed that you are 18 or over, and whether that question has been asked
- which category the Imposter deck is drawing from
- which games you opened most recently
- how far through each deck you have played, so a deck resumes instead of repeating
- whether you have bought the ad-free upgrade, stored as a single yes or no
We cannot see any of it. It is deleted when you delete the app, and we cannot restore it afterwards, on a new phone or on the same one.
THE NAMES YOU TYPE IN
When you seat a room you can type the players' names. Those names are not written to storage at all. They are held in memory while the app is running and are gone the moment it closes. They never leave the device and we never see them. If you would rather not type real names, the app is perfectly happy with nicknames or with the numbered seats it offers by default.
ADVERTISING
Unless you have bought the ad-free upgrade, the app shows ads supplied by Google AdMob. Serving an ad means the ad network receives information from your device. Typically that includes an advertising identifier, general device and operating system information, coarse location inferred from an IP address, and information about which ads were shown and interacted with. Google acts as an independent controller for much of this. Google explains what it collects, and why, at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and at policies.google.com/privacy.
We do not receive any of that information about you as an individual. What we see is aggregate reporting: how many ads were shown across everybody, and what was earned.
On iOS the app asks once, through Apple's own prompt, whether it may track you across other companies' apps and websites. If you say no, or if you never answer, the app is not permitted to use the identifier for advertisers and AdMob serves non-personalised ads instead. You can change your answer at any time in the Settings app under Privacy and Security, then Tracking.
On Android you can reset your advertising ID, or delete it entirely, in the system settings under Google, then Ads. Deleting it has the same effect: non-personalised ads.
Non-personalised ads are not no ads. They still involve a request to Google's servers and still use limited information, including coarse location and the fact that an ad was shown, for frequency capping, fraud prevention and reporting.
Buying the ad-free upgrade stops all ad requests, and with them all ad-related collection.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, please read the section headed A NOTE FOR PLAYERS IN EUROPE below.
PURCHASES
The ad-free upgrade is a one time purchase handled entirely by Apple's App Store or by Google Play. Your payment details are given to them and never to us. We never see a card number, a billing address or a name. What the app receives is a confirmation from the store that a purchase belonging to this app completed, which it stores on the device as a single yes or no. Apple and Google each keep their own record of the transaction under their own privacy policies.
WHAT APPLE AND GOOGLE COLLECT WITHOUT US
Independently of this app, the platform you are on may collect information about it. Apple and Google both record installs, updates and store activity. If you have agreed to share crash and usage data with Apple or with Google, your device may send them diagnostics that mention Rondo. That collection is the platform's, is governed by the platform's privacy policy, and happens whether or not we want it. We receive only anonymous, aggregated summaries in the developer consoles: how many devices, which countries, how many crashes, and never who.
LEGAL BASES, IF YOU ARE IN EUROPE
Where the GDPR applies, we rely on the following:
- Running the app itself, storing your settings and remembering your place in a deck: this is necessary to perform the contract you enter into by installing and using the app, and none of it is personal data that leaves the device in any case.
- Non-personalised advertising, fraud prevention, frequency capping and ad measurement: our legitimate interest, and Google's, in funding a free app and in keeping the ad network from being defrauded.
- Personalised advertising, storing or reading identifiers on your device for advertising, and any use of the advertising identifier for cross-app tracking: your consent. In the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom that consent is asked for through the Google consent sheet described below, and on iOS through Apple's tracking prompt as well. It is withdrawable at any time, through Ad privacy choices in the app's settings or through your device settings, and withdrawing it takes effect at once.
- Answering an email you send us: our legitimate interest in replying to you.
HOW LONG THINGS ARE KEPT
We keep nothing, so there is nothing for us to hold on to. Data on your device stays there until you delete the app or clear its storage. Data held by Google in connection with advertising is kept under Google's own retention rules. Emails you send us are kept for as long as it takes to deal with the question and for a reasonable period afterwards, and are then deleted.
INTERNATIONAL TRANSFERS
We do not transfer your data anywhere, because we do not hold it. Google and Apple both operate globally and may process advertising and purchase information outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States, using the transfer mechanisms set out in their own policies.
CHILDREN
Rondo is a party game written for adults. It is not directed at children, it is rated accordingly on both stores, and the explicit material is kept behind a gate that asks you to confirm you are 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, children included. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, write to us and we will look into it, although in almost every case the honest answer will be that we never had it.
Nothing in the app is a substitute for an adult deciding whether a game is appropriate for the people in the room.
YOUR RIGHTS
Where the GDPR applies you have the right to ask for access to the personal data a controller holds about you, and to have it corrected, deleted, restricted or ported, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests. You may also withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.
We hold no personal data about you, so in our case there is nothing to give you, correct or delete. That is not a refusal; it is the whole design of the app. For advertising data you should contact Google, and for purchase data Apple or Google, since they are the controllers of it. Write to us and we will point you at the right place.
If you think your data has been handled wrongly, you can complain to your national data protection authority. In Sweden that is Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten, at imy.se.
IF YOU ARE IN CALIFORNIA OR ANOTHER US STATE WITH PRIVACY LEGISLATION
We do not sell personal information for money and never have. Using an advertising identifier to serve personalised ads may nonetheless count as selling or sharing personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising under some state laws, including California's. You can stop it in either of two ways, and both work immediately: refuse tracking on the iOS prompt or delete your Android advertising ID, or buy the ad-free upgrade, which stops ad requests altogether. We do not knowingly collect the personal information of anyone under 16, and we do not use any of this for profiling with legal effects.
SECURITY
The information the app stores sits in the sandboxed storage the operating system gives every app, protected by your device's own security. There is no account to break into, no password of ours to steal and no database of ours to breach, because none of those things exist. A phone that other people can unlock is a phone on which other people can read your settings and your deck positions, which is the practical limit of what is at stake.
WHO WE SHARE INFORMATION WITH
Nobody, because we do not have it. The third parties that receive information directly from your device are:
- Google AdMob, for advertising, unless the ad-free upgrade is bought: policies.google.com/privacy
- Apple, for App Store purchases and platform services: apple.com/legal/privacy
- Google Play, for Play Store purchases and platform services: policies.google.com/privacy
We do not use any other analytics, attribution, crash reporting or advertising service.
A NOTE FOR PLAYERS IN EUROPE
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the app asks you about advertising on first launch, using Google's User Messaging Platform. The sheet you see is built by Google, lists the advertising partners involved, and asks whether your data may be used for personalised advertising. Nothing is requested from the ad network before you have answered it.
You can change that answer at any time. Open Settings inside the app and choose Ad privacy choices, which reopens the same sheet. That row appears only where a consent choice is required, so if you are outside those countries you will not see it. A change takes effect immediately: any ad already fetched under the previous answer is discarded rather than shown.
To be clear about what that choice does and does not do: it decides what an ad may be based on, not whether there is one. Declining personalisation means you keep seeing ads, and they are chosen from the app you are in rather than from anything about you. The free version of Rondo is paid for by advertising and stays that way. The only thing that removes advertising is the ad-free upgrade.
Outside the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, Google does not require the form and it is not shown.
This is separate from Apple's tracking prompt on iOS, which asks about the advertising identifier specifically. Both apply on an iPhone in Europe, and the consent sheet comes first. Saying no to either one is enough to stop advertising being personalised, and neither one stops advertising.
The ad-free upgrade remains the way to stop advertising entirely, in every country.
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
If this policy changes, the version in the app changes with it in the next update, and the date at the top changes too. Material changes will also be noted in the release notes on the store.
